19-year-old Jaden Smith released his debut album SYRE and the hip-hop universe is taking notice.
The son of Will Smith dropped a trailer for the SYRE back in late October, promising a colorful project rendering visions and influences trapped in the young MC's cranium. He raps about the addicted streets, anxiety ridden relationships, therapy and everything in-between.
The quality and wholesomeness of the project comes as a pleasant surprise to many hip-hop heads who may have written off the son-of-a-superstar before giving him a chance. The project features standout tracks "Icon," "Batman," and "Falcon." Rest assured, Jaden Smith has built a name for himself in his own right, aggressively separating himself from the young mumble rap wave. The kid has BARS.
"We should build a city overseas, this country kinda cold,
I mean they feed the children dopamine and leave them on the sofa I mean, ah,
I need someone to renounce with, Ice bucket challenge in the fountain, woah
Chance of finding you, one in a hundred thousand"
